Media Technology Systems Inc. (MTSi) offers a range of products and solutions from highly efficient, Class D/PFC/SMPS multichannel networked power amplifiers, to powerful and cost-effective, Ethernet-based Paging Systems. From Wall Control and digital Interface products, to Wireless Display Gateways. In development are further networked audio and video presentation solutions for education, presentation, corporate and digital signage applications.

MTSi introduces the world's first In-Wall, standard J-box CobraNet® Interfaces

The ION 2.0 and ION 0.2 analog-to-CobraNet interfaces are designed to install in standard electrical installation ‘J-box’ hardware, a perfect solution for Classrooms, Corporate Meeting rooms and Hotel Banquet rooms.

The ION products integrate an elegant dual XLR/RCA wall plate with a CobraNet® interface and allow the use of any of a wide selection of styles and colors of trim plate such as Leviton™ and others. Available in a variety of configurations, the MTSi ION 2.0 is a wall mount 2-channel mic/line input interface with XLR and RCA connections, phantom power and -55dB, -25dB and 0dB sensitivity selection. The ION 0.2 is a J-box, in-wall mount, 2-channel line output interface. The ION 4.4 is a half-rack, 4-channel mic/line input and 4-channel line output module. ION 2.0d and ION 0.2d (DSP) models have 100 MIPS of DSP processing with EQ filters, compressors, limiters, duckers and matrix switching/mixing. The ION 0.2d can accept up to 8 incoming CobraNet audio streams to provide a local mixing capability.

MTSi has also launched two CobraNet-enabled power amplifiers to complement the ION interfaces. The COM-Series amplifiers are specifically designed for applications requiring large numbers of constant voltage (70 or 100V) amplifier channels. Such applications include transportation facilities (airports, rail networks, subway stations), retail, hospitality, office buildings, and theme parks, to name only a few. The Si-Series delivers full specified power regardless of the A/C power conditions. In addition, Si amplifiers use a Power Factor Corrected supply which complies with incoming legislation in many markets by maintaining clear power supply distribution for any other equipment in the system. Both the COM-Series and Si-Series amplifiers allow networking, control and monitoring, including fault and load monitoring. In addition the amplifiers feature a 100Base-Tx Ethernet port providing Telnet access to the amplifier control and monitoring capability, as well as a CobraNet® port for uncompressed, high-definition digital audio transport with precise, network-wide zone synchronization. Optional amplifier configurations are available for CobraNet-enabled DSP processing, equalization, compressors, duckers etc.

MTSi COM-Series and Si-Series amplifiers employ Class-D output topology for maximum efficiency, minimal heat dissipation and as a result exhibit excellent longevity whilst not requiring forced air cooling with inherent service demands. All MTSi amplifiers utilize Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) again for maximum efficiency and importantly, super regulation of power supply rails.

CobraNet Networked Digital Audio Technology Bulletin

CobraCom Reference Platform Bulletin

Digital audio networking is an exciting technology that has seen rapid growth in an ever wider range of audio applications in recent years. Combining the functional and cost benefits of the latest developments in both audio and networking technologies, digital audio networking makes possible the implementation of applications that were heretofore too expensive and too cumbersome to manage.

CobraNet® technology, from Cirrus Logic, has emerged as the de-facto standard in audio networking technology with over 500,000 channels of uncompressed, low latency, real time professional grade audio installed to date. As part of their ongoing commitment to this technology, Cirrus Logic has introduced a new range of integrated circuits that make use of CobraNet technology easier and more cost effective than ever.

With the new CobraNet Silicon Series of integrated circuits, Cirrus Logic has taken full advantage of its audio expertise to give OEMs a revolutionary solution for new generations of audio equipment such as signal processors, power amplifiers, intercom systems, ceiling speakers, loudspeakers, I/O equipment, paging systems and many other applications that benefit from the high quality networked audio and control capabilities of CobraNet.

CobraNet capability can be easily and cost effectively incorporated into a variety of products with the Cirrus Logic CS1810xx family of CobraNet processors and CS4961xx family of CobraNet + DSP processors in 2x2, 8x8, and 16x16 channel configurations. Cirrus Logic has greatly reduced overall implementation costs and increased ease of design — all without licensing fees or royalties.

CobraNet continues to grow rapidly as its flexibility, utility, performance, and robustness are understood and appreciated by more and more leading manufacturers and end users alike.

CobraNet Technology Benefits

Until recently, designing and building audio distribution systems with any degree of flexibility and intelligence has been a difficult and expensive undertaking, requiring large expenditures on wiring, conduit, switching equipment and installation labor. In addition, audio systems such as this using traditional analog technology have the added disadvantage of often being difficult and prohibitively expensive to reconfigure once installed.

With CobraNet networked audio, any audio input can be dynamically routed under software control to any audio output on the network in any combination, providing unparalleled routing flexibility; all over standard Ethernet.

Full remote control over the network is a standard part of the protocol with re-routing of audio easily accomplished via software rather than with expensive re-cabling or use of dedicated analog switching facilities. The network and protocol itself, not expensive cabling or switching equipment, is the switch.

Use of standard Ethernet wiring further reduces costs. Most facilities with installed sound systems include a data network that carries computer files, cash register transactions, HVAC control, security, etc. The audio industry's top designers are now seeing the advantage and value of also carrying audio over this type of network. CobraNet technology allows for the co-existence of audio and data traffic over existing standard Ethernet infrastructure resulting in substantial savings in design and installation.

With previously unattainable routing, control and monitoring flexibility, reduced system set-up and installation costs and professional grade audio delivery, CobraNet has emerged as the technology of choice in digital audio networking.
